These things have become altogether too commonplace. Horribly, absurdly commonplace. May we who KNOW the consolation of Christ (Philippians 2:1; II Corinthians 1:3-4) stand up to the plate, take in the full gravity of the times and show the compassion of the Living God to those touched by yet another unspeakable tragedy. And may it remind us that it is not just about our own "unalienable rights" to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,", but there are fellow creatures for whom Jesus died that are in need and in pain and in trouble all around us (I John 2:2). Though we be tempted to grasp for all the pleasures of life in the spirit of "carpe diem," Paul says "LET US REDEEM THE TIME, FOR THE DAYS ARE EVIL." "People need the Lord."
